Mountain Flux

Looking at paintings of mountains from hundreds of years ago and comparing them to the present day can make them seem permanent and unchanging. However, the lives of mountains should not be measured in the same way as human lives. The lifespan of a mountain is measured in eons and within that life there is change, growth and aging, as with our own lives.

Glaciers have been a part of the mountain landscape since before the ice ages, appearing as permanent as the mountain, but constantly inching forwards. This movement, this change, is almost imperceptible to our human eyes. Unfortunately the warming climate has made these changes to glaciers, and hence the entire mountain landscape, much more visible and the change is still accelerating.
